Every day, thousands are released from our State and federal criminal justice systems, while millions remain under community supervision. For a variety of reasons, these former offenders often struggle with successfully reintegrating into society.
In recent years, communities have begun focusing on the social, economic and public safety challenges posed when former offenders cannot successfully find a job, a home or otherwise find barriers to economic and educational improvements.
If we are a nation of second chances, how can we make those chances meaningful? Can we reduce recidivism and strengthen family and neighborhood bonds? Can we reduce the costs of our criminal justice system? How can we give someone an opportunity to contribute to their community?
