Mary Beth Curley is a Supervising Mental Health Client Specialist in the Behavioral Health Division of the Health Services Agency.

Last year, as a result of a new Child Welfare Mandate going into effect in California, Child Welfare Services began referring newborn babies to Children’s Behavioral Heath for assessment and treatment.

Prior to last year, Children’s Behavioral Heath had only treated children over the age of three, but this was a huge procedural shift, necessitating careful research and planning to accommodate treating this new population.

Mary Beth took up this challenge and embarked on researching and developing new policies and procedures to meet the need for treating newborns and infants.

Mary Beth connected with Stanford Neurodevelopment Clinic, Parent Center, and many other early childhood treatment programs to ensure that the clinicians that she supervises were educated on proper treatment and assessment of the behavioral health needs of newborns.

As a result of Mary Beth’s leadership, Children’s Behavioral Health is now well-equipped, confident, and responsive in meeting the complex behavioral health needs of newborns and infants in foster care.

The Medication Assisted Treatment Team

The Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Team is composed of compassionate and highly dedicated professionals who serve some of the most vulnerable members of our community who are suffering from substance abuse disorder.

Through individual counseling, group services, and coordinated care, the MAT Team has helped participants achieve sobriety, secure housing, gain employment, reunite with family members, and build healthier futures for themselves and their children.

The Team provides services across County campuses, within homeless service programs, and through direct outreach in encampments and on the streets, meeting individuals where they are with a non-judgmental, harm-reduction approach that fosters trust, engagement, and lasting change.

The MAT Team’s innovative and compassionate approach has strengthened the County’s behavioral health system and saved countless lives and is widely recognized as a model for other clinics locally and beyond.

The work of the MAT Team exemplifies excellence in public service and demonstrates the profound impact of meeting people with dignity, respect, and unwavering support.
