Elections Department
Functions and Responsibilities

The Elections Department has the following basic responsibilities:

• Meet the needs of our customers;
• Manage the County's voter registration database;
• Conduct elections held within Santa Cruz County;
• Filing officer for candidates, campaign statements for county and district elected officials, and Fair Political Practices Commission;
• Manage petitions filed in our office for recalls, referendum, state and local initiatives, or candidate nominations;
• Advocate for state and federal legislation to better serve voters and county taxpayers.

Contrary to popular opinion the Elections Department:

• Has duties and responsibilities even when no election is scheduled;
• Is open to the public for inspection of our practices and procedures.
