Elections Department
Functions and Responsibilities

The Elections Department has the following basic responsibilities:
- Meet the needs of our customers;
- Manage the County's voter registration database;
- Conduct elections held within Santa Cruz County;
- Filing officer for candidates, campaign statements for county and district elected officials, and Fair Political Practices Commission;
- Manage petitions filed in our office for recalls, referendum, state and local initiatives, or candidate nominations;
- Advocate for state and federal legislation to better serve voters and county taxpayers.
Contrary to popular opinion the Elections Department:
- Has duties and responsibilities even when no election is scheduled;
- Is open to the public for inspection of our practices and procedures.
