Public Defender Transition

By June 2022, the County Administrative Office will complete the transition of indigent defense services to a new County department including staffing, facilities and cases.

Implement Board-approved transition plan for indigent defense services in collaboration with key stakeholders. Prioritize hiring and retention of current staff with the Biggam, Christensen and Minsloff (BCM) law firm through consistent and transparent communication. Recruit and hire Public Defender department head. Work with BCM law firm to ensure transition does not adversely impact their ability to execute their contract with the County.
